Food Hub Info

Our History
The Food HUB is our warehouse that co-ordinates the collection and distribution of donated food across the borough of Bromley. Started as an emergency response to the Covid pandemic in March 2020, the warehouse moved to a dedicated storage space as part of our facilities within the Walnuts Shopping Centre.

The Food HUB receives and distributes on average 5 tons of food each week. We particularly seek to distribute fresh fruit and vegetables, ambient food such as bread and eggs and protein – which is typically meat. These are often the food groups that people in emergency or on limited finances need and do not have the resources to purchase.

Our Partners
Working as part of the Transform Bromley Borough Food Partnership (“TBB Food Partnership”) we provide food to eleven local food partners and support over 1,700 people each week. On a smaller scale Hope Church supports 10 – 15 families directly.

All of this good work would not happen without our food donors. Rather than receive food directly from the public we receive three deliveries per week from The Felix Project (previously Fareshare). We are indebted to Morrisons in Petts Wood for their long term partnership in supplying a significant quantity of food to us at a subsidised price, helping us to support those most in need at this time. We are also grateful to other supermarkets including Waitrose, the Co-op and Tesco who support us from time to time and to Cook for their generosity in supplying meals to us.

Our service is recognised as a strategic need within the borough
While a number of our food partners are faith groups or church responses we are proud of our relationship with other third sector and charity groups and work closely with Community Links and Bromley Borough Foodbank, part of the Trussell Trust national network.

We continue to work closely with Bromley Council. At the height of the pandemic and the national lockdown in 2020 they provided seed funding to ensure that we were able to meet the increased demand for support. They recently nominated the TBB Food Partnership for an award at the London Faith and Belief Community Awards 2021 and we were delighted to be recognised as one of their “Community Resourcefulness in Response to Covid 19” Award winners.

How you can support the work of the Food Hub
The Food HUB is principally staffed by volunteers who collect, receive, sort and distribute food from the warehouse. We are always in need of new volunteers. We are also looking for people or organisations willing to help us meet the ongoing annual running costs of this project. Currently we spend approximately £25k per year on food, with further additional administrative costs to ensure the project continues to run smoothly.
